Pharrell Williams and Adidas have been keeping things funky. Last year, the longtime Adi collaborator brought his creative hub VIRGINIA into the fold last year with the Adidas Jellyfish, a reworking of the Adistar Cushion 3 and one of the waviest silhouettes the Three Stripes have dropped in years. The chunky model proved a bonafide hit, instantly turning VIRGINIA into a real player in the sneaker space.
After following up that initial success in March with the Flat Earther, a slender revamped yoga shoe, the collaborators are back this weekend with their boldest swing yet: the Adidas x VIRGINIA Watermoc. First unveiled at a Marseille beach party back in June, the Watermoc is a reimagining of 1997’s Adidas Adventure Water Moc. That shoe was a performance model aimed at the outdoorsy set, designed for paddling kayaks and exploring creek beds.
The German brand has offered variations on the Water Moc over the years, but this is the first time it’s gotten a proper lifestyle-oriented spin. The VIRGINIA Watermoc retains much of the OG’s practical elements, including a lugged rubber sole, an upper cut from neoprene and breathable mesh, and bungee lacing. Pharrell also added a triangular strap that runs across the tongue for both improved fit and an extra aesthetic pop.
But where Pharrell’s genius really shines through is in the colors. The first drop features three colorways: a simple black version; a yellow rendition with black and gray accents; and a standout final spin that layers multiple shades of light blue with cream, gray, pink, and reflective accents. They’re stylish enough to give your next fit pic a serious boost, but still durable enough to get through your next camping trip in one piece.
